Shared this painting I made on Autism Awareness Day 2018 when I was still pregnant with Riyaan.
Little did I know that the tiny person inside me was also on the Autism Spectrum. Such a special boy - my Riyaan.
He teaches me patience and understanding. And how my mind and heart has grown since he was born!
But then again... of course, I can say the same for all my children. They have all made me smarter, more loving and my heart has expanded so much with feelings hard to describe.
With every child, I have done things I never expected I would do. We have experienced ups and downs and trauma of different kinds. We faced challenges that came without warnings for all of them. Every parent does. Autism or no Autism. Special needs or not. We have experienced happiness in so many ways that we never thought possible. For all three of our children.
We came together to overcome any challenge that came our way, for everyone in our family.
Things are really not that different. Everyone has different needs, challenges, gifts, wants.
Everyone has the intense desire for love, understanding and acceptance.
How meaningful this painting now is to me!
