Three hundred and sixty fifth sunset
Dunks into the sea,
And we are suddenly a strange people.
Today we creatures of habit
Crawl out from our cozy holes,
Creeping from the shadows
Into new, uncomfortable spaces,
Look at us squinting at the sun
As we try so hard to become new.
What is it about that last sunset of a year?
Why does an old, dusty calendar on the wall
Make way for a new one...
Before we can dive into fresh habits and renewal?
Is will power heightened on this day?
Is fearlessness strengthened?
Minds enlightened?
Values renewed?
Is anything different today?
Does anything really change today except on a clock and a calendar?
Why are we blind to the truth that
We were all once nothing...
And that
The possibility to become a new you exists at every moment in time?
